Find and Replace not working

I'm using Excel 2002...and I use Ctrl-F all the time to locate certain words in a large worksheet. Lately whenever I try a word search it's been returning
"Microsoft Excel cannot find the data you're searching for. " even when the word I'm searching for is visible right next to the Find and Replace window. This week is has been misfunctining most of the time, but it worked properly for part of a day. I also checked in Word 2002 and had the same problem.

Any ideas for troubleshooting this? I'm using WinXP.

Are you uncheck Match case and Match entire cell contents checkboxs?

Sorry I haven't replied until now, but Ctrl-F has been working lately. I was waiting for it to fail again, but it hasn't.
(how can I get this reply to WordWrap?)

BTW, Match case, and Match entire cell contents, were always unchecked.

Also, I have an upgraded Excel, v2007, but I don't like it and only use it to convert .xlsx files.
