Name Box is displaying symbols

I suddenly noticed that the Name Box was displaying symbols instead of text (see attached picture). Its in all my excel files and I don't know if it's something I did (I don't remember making any changes except for the default font). If I type a cell location on it, the focus goes to the correct cell. I tried googling for a solution but couldn't find one. My version is Professional Plus 2019.

Anyone have any ideas how to correct this?

I checked every setting I could find regarding fonts both for systems and applications but nothing was working. I was beginning to think it was a virus. I closed every window and started a scan. Scan turned up nothing. I re-opened the files and...it's back to normal!

I worked on the files for several hours but the problem didn't return. 'Hope it stays that way. (",)
