Best way to add a vertical marker to Pivot Graph

What's the best way to add a vertical marker to a Pivot Graph to indicate a point in time?

I would like a simple way to add an indicator to a Pivot Graph to mark when something was changed so we can see if a particular change has changed things.

If some text could be add also to indicate what we did, just a few words would be all that is need.

The Pivot Graph will grow with time (the Pivot Table will be updated weekly so the source data in the table will change - the data comes from our server using an sql search within excel) but I obviously would like the marker to stay fixed at that particular date.

    Thank you

Re: Best way to add a vertical marker to Pivot Graph

Pivot charts are convenient for many things, but they do have certain limitations (unless something significant has changed in the most recent version of Excel) -- one of which is that a pivot chart can use no more and no less than the entire pivot table for its source data. The usual strategy for adding a line to chart is by adding a data series from outside of the chart's main data source (see here: https://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/AddLine.html ), so this approach is not allowed for pivot charts.

Basically I see two possible ways forward (without any details about your source database or your pivot table or your chart, it is difficult to give a specific solution):
    1) Add something to your pivot table (which often means adding something to the source database) that will provide another data series with a single non-zero entry at the correct date. Since pivot charts cannot support a date axis (dates in a pivot charts are treated as text/category data), this may or may not actually work.
    2) Create a regular chart using your pivot data, and then you can use a technique like in the above tutorial to add a line to the chart.

I recommend reading through this https://peltiertech.com/regular-char...-pivot-tables/ where Peltier talks about the benefits and drawbacks of pivot charts and regular charts and how to make a regular chart from pivot data when you decide that a pivot chart is to limiting.

    thank you for the reply.

I was suspecting this would be the case.

I was considering adding a new column to the source table in Excel with a fixed value.

I will have a read of the links you have provided.

    Thank you
