An alternative to pivot tables that can be edited

    Hello,

I am looking for a solution that works kind of like pivot tables in Excel, but can be edited as well. I've got a database with some columns, for example "client", "service" and "amount". Pivot table arranges data in the way I need: services is rows, clients is columns, and amount is values. However, the data cannot be edited that way. Each entry (that is a row) in the database in unique, and therefore pivot table is not used to sum up data, but just to present it. Is there any way to present data the same way, and also edit it and add entries in the database?

    Hi there.

A picture is worth 1,000 words. An Excel sheet is worth 1,000 pictures.

Please read the yellow banner about sample worksheets, at the top of the screen. Act on its guidelines and post a SMALL sample sheet.

Here is an example file. Pivot table basically functions here as data base interface. You are supposed to only choose one slicer item at a time.
You cannot edit pivots because they are sums of multiple data entries, but in this case there is only one data entry per value in the pivot. Is there any solution that works kind of like pivot tables but also lets you edit the values (and updates them in the data base) and can generate the corresponding entries in the data base if I add data? For example if you choose Client1 in the slicer and add data to Employee2/Service4 (D7), this row is added to the database: Client1, Employee2, Service4, Amount [numerical that was written into the cell D7 in the pivot]. Is something like this possible in Excel without VBA?
