Dear respected members,
I was wondering if anyone could give me heads up on how to create the attached Battery duty cycle chart in Excel. Thanks for your help in advance.
Dear respected members,
I was wondering if anyone could give me heads up on how to create the attached Battery duty cycle chart in Excel. Thanks for your help in advance.
What does the data look like?
Hello Bob,
Thank for your willingness to help. I have attached the data. I expect the Load to be on the Y-axis, the start and end time would be on the X-axis.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Perhaps it is my ignorance of battery duty cycles, but I am struggling to see how the data relates to the diagram, and where the labels come form. For instance, L2 load goes from 40 to 320 amperes, and starts at 0 ends at 1 min. Nothing in the data corresponds to that that I can see.
The diagram looks to me like a stacked area chart, so I would probably approach it that way. As with a lot of charting questions, most of the work is in the spreadsheet arranging the data. You will want your data arranged something likeYou will need 2 entries for each start/end time (both a 0 entry and a value entry) in order to get the nice, vertical lines. Basically, you need to compile a complete list of start/end times from the raw data and duplicate it. Then you need to determine which loads are "on" and which are "off" at each time, as well as correctly handling the on to off/off to on boundaries.![]()

Once you get the data arranged, the chart should be fairly easy to create. Select the data and insert a stacked area chart. When you create the chart, Excel will probably default to a text/category axis, and you will need to change it to a date axis (with a general or integer number format).
That's a basic overview of what I expect to see happen to create this chart. What part do you need help with?

Thanks MrShorty,
I have decided to represent it in a Gant chart format. I will keep note of your solution for future reference.
