Hi All,
I need to insert a formula in a cell that has been merged i.e. C8-C11. I normally unmerge the cell in order for me to place the formula in it. Is there anyway to avoid unmerging the cells and still be able to put a formula in it?
Thanks.

Referring to cell C8 should do it ( if you must make that rod for your own back ).

just put it direct even when the cells are merged and the formula will just work fine.
I tried but it did not work.
Post the workbook, let’s see what’s happening.
Ok.. here is the sample worksheet. When I put the formula vlookup in Column C the formula does not work but if place the formula in Column D then it works.
Please tell me more. Thanks.
Looking at this on an iPad so I can't be 100% but it looks as if the merged cells are formatted as Text. Try formatting them as General and re-enter the formula (select, F2, Enter)
TMS,
You were right. So I did put it in general and it worked. Thank you so much.
You're welcome. Thanks for the rep.![]()
