Ignore Asterisks in Cell in Order to Use Value as a Number

I'm conducting academic research where the output to Excel often includes asterisks to show the level of significance (e.g. 0.25*** means significant at p<.01). The problem is that all of the cells are treated as a non-numerical by Excel but I need to use them in an equation. I could remove the asterisks manually which would take time for every run of the data or I could remove the right 3 characters of the cell if I knew there would always be 3 asterisks, but sometimes there are only 2, 1 or none.

I currently have one master workbook that pulls in multiple trials, one per worksheet, using the linked spreadsheet function. So I'm looking for some way to modify the linking formula to ignore the asterisks so I can use the number as part of an equation in another cell.
