Unhappy Issue with Text Wrap in Cells & Spontaneous Unwanted Changes

Question one: When I click a column on excel 2016, the text fits, when I deselect the cell, the text no longer fits the cell. I have wrap text on with merge and center on. when I double click the cell, the words are readjusting within the cell. I would like to maintain the formatting that occurs spontaneously when I double click the cell.

Question two and a similar problem: When I try to shrink a cell, it moves the words down to the next line unnecessarily. So as a result, the text does not fit the column even though it clearly can fit. Wrap text and merge and center are enabled. If I remove this and just write what i need on each line without wrap text or merge and center, everything fits.

This is gloriously annoying. Please help. Thank you.

    Re: WHAT IS Going on?

Do you have a large amount of text?

    Re: WHAT IS Going on?

Hi someone and welcome to the forum, as everyone is welcome and you are a subset of them.

I wonder if you have tabs or line breaks in your cell's text. Do a Alt-Enter in a cell to get a line break.

What happens if you Clean() on the text in those cells?

We really need a sample worksheet attached to get to the bottom of this question.

I uploaded a sample. It behaves differently depending on the view. In the page layout view, it behaves like I have described it. It behaves differently in the normal view. I appreciate the help everyone.

no line breaks are there. How do I "clean()" it?

Re: Issue with Text Wrap in Cells & Spontaneous Unwanted Changes

Just drag the column A width a tad wider and you will get the appearance of the text you want.

The big question I have is why are you merging these cells at all? Merging is something you should avoid doing. There is certainly no need to merge cells across two columns, B and C, here - just make column B wider.
