    Cell Reference Question

    Hello all!

Recently started using excel more and more for work, and discovering its powers! Very handy program which im keen to improve a bit on, not master level but itd be nice to know basics well.

One thing i cant work out is how to reference a cell from a list, which has to be the most recent comment input in that list/range. What i mean is, if you have a column called "comments" and you start at A1 say, working your way down progressively till say A8, i want the cell to contain a formula which references cell A8, after having previously referenced A7, and A6 and A5 prior to this etc.

I need a track record of all the comments made, so the reference needs to know how to reference the latest input comment, so that on another sheet which I call 'Summary" it has a reference to the last and most current comment so people are aware of the status of the project basically.

    Any tips would be great!!!

    Re: Cell Reference Question

I don't have any formulas in there as I don't know how to do it after researching, instead ive put some explanations of what I want where, and some sample data on sheet1.

    Re: Cell Reference Question

    Try this:

    =LOOKUP(2,1/(Sheet1!A:A<>""),Sheet1!A:A)

    Re: Cell Reference Question

getting an error unfortunately when i try type in that formula into A2 of sheet 2. Hmm unless im typing in wrong? I am typing it in exactly the way youve shown there hmm...

Okay i did a direct cut and copy of it and now it works!

I wont even ask what the language means! It looks so complicated.....If i go and throw it into my actual spread sheet, do i just change the A;A part? Not sure what the 2 and 1/ portions mean however....

AAAND last edit before i mark this solved - just found this link explaining exactly your process! [cant post links yet!]

Thank you very much again AliGW really appreciate your time

No problem, and no, it's not that complicated, but you have found out how it works.
