Multiply a cell by 2 based on data validation selection

    Good afternoon,

I am building a scores table for a pub quiz. One of the rules are that teams can use a trump card in one round which will double their points.

I have created a data validation list where the scorer can select what round the team have chosen to use their trump card but need a formula that will automatically double the the score for the round once it is entered.

    Is anyone able to help?

    Hi Challenger40,

    Welcome to the Forum.

We probably can help but would need a copy of your file.
Please follow the instructions in the yellow "banner" just above your post and add a copy of your file.

    regards

Thank you for getting back to me peterrc. I have uploaded the file. I have formatted it so when you say which round you are playing the trump card the cell turns yellow but I need to multiply the value of the cell by two automatically when it is populated.

What goes into the trump card column to indicate that the card is being used? There is no conditional formatting that I can see.

Re: Multiply a cell by 2 based on data validation selection

    Doesn't work!

Anyway, that doesn't really matter for the question in hand. Try this:

    =SUM(E5:I5)+INDEX(E$5:I$5,,D5)

    Excel 2016 (Windows) 32 bit
    D
    E
    F
    G
    H
    I
    J
    3
    ROUND
    4
    Trump Card
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    5
    1
    6
    7
    9
    7
    5
    40
    Sheet: Sheet5

    Excel 2016 (Windows) 32 bit
    J
    5
    =SUM(E5:I5)+INDEX(E$5:I$5,,D5)
    Sheet: Sheet5
