    Excel general question

I want to know what the at the rate symbol is used for in Excel, the same symbol used in an email address. I tried typing it into the post but it is being picked up as a link so I get an error. I have seen it before in spreadsheets (not within a VBA macro), but I am not sure what is used for or if there is a specific name for it when used in Excel. Thanks.

also I don't know what sites are connected to each other. Sometimes I post a question and get no answer or not a correct answer that is why I posted on more than 1 forum. Thanks.
