Dropdown in Excel 365 versus Excel online

Good afternoon, I am stuck with an odd thing between Excel online versus a locally installed Excel 365.
In the online version I have a file with multiple worksheets. In a worksheet I use vertical search.
The field to be searched for concerns / has a dropdown list. This list is in another worksheet.
In the online version, when clicking on a cell containing the dropdown, this dropdown list is immediately displayed and I can start to tap and the "selection" becomes smaller to what I can click and the other fields are filled with this. Ideal.

However, in the locally installed Excel 365 I do not get a dropdown when clicking the cell and in addition I cannot "continue" to the desired one. So I have to "open" the dropdown list and scroll to the desired one. Is not ideal.
Can someone explain to me what I am forgetting? Or is this a kind of code that is in the online version but not in the 365 version.
My big thanks for thinking along and possibly responses.
    With greeting
    Erik

Re: Dropdown in Excel 365 versus Excel online

It's just how desktop Excel application works with validation dropdown.

Unfortunately, without use special set up (ex: using iterative calculation & Cell function along with intermediate range/table, VBA etc) there is no way to shrink down list in dropdown in desktop.

Online uses another layer which isn't available for desktop to do this.

See attached for sample set up that works for desktop & online Excel (Validation in B2:B6), using iterative calculation and Cell function.
