Can we change the default font? (for cutting or clearing, not new workbooks)

I am trying to change the default font from Arial to Calibri. I know there is a way to update the initial font for new books under "Options->General->When creating new workbooks" and this changes the default font to be applied but only when creating a new book or sheet.

However, I will often use other commands such as "Editing->Clear->Clear All/Clear All Formats" and cut and pasting (same thing as dragging blocks of cells around), and in both cases excel defaults to 10-pt Arial font with typical alignment options (text is left, numbers are right aligned).

I have not found any way to change what Excel auto updates the source cells to (where data had been, but was cut or cleared).

Does anyone else find this really annoying and have you been able to identify any options or variable that can be updated to make this work as one might expect?

    Regards,

To change the default in an already-existing file, go to the 'Page Layout' tab on the ribbon, click 'Fonts' and choose the theme which most closely matches what you want - probably the top 'Office' theme will work for you (Cambria for headings, Calibri for text).

That only changes the font type, not the size. If you want to change the default font size as well, then go to the Home tab, look in the 'Styles' section where you'll find the 'Normal' style. Right-click and select 'Modify' to allow you to change the font, font size, alignment, etc, etc.

The two methods are independent but related - depending on exactly what you want for each file, you might use just the first, just the second or both.

(Ironically, I have the opposite issue - my organisation mandates the use of Arial, but the network admins have left the default as Cambria/Calibri, so I constantly have to change the defaults to what you want to get away from!)

I recently started a new job so am a bit busy and may not reply quickly. Sorry - it's not personal - I will reply eventually.
If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.
