Exclamation Excel 2016 Filter Sorting Columns With No Filter

Columns A-D have data and a filter. Columns J-K have data and NO filter.

Why is the data in columns J-K sorting when I use the filters for A-D? There is no data or filters in columns E-I.

How can this be fixed to only sort the data in columns A-D using filters?

    Thanks in advance.

    Can you attach your workbook?

Go Advanced -> Manage Attachments -> Upload

Unfortunately I can't because of the proprietary information in the file.

Would clearing contents help in the blank columns?

Just delete any private info, and provide a smaller set of data (20 lines), just so we can see the filtering effect.

I'm not sure I fully understand, but when it filters, it "hides" the rows that don't match the filter, so whatever is in that row gets hidden.

I have a feeling that the data in J-K is not really being sorted, like you think it is.

1st, you need to understand how filters work. When you apply a filter, and it "hides" data in your range (A:D), it hides the entire row, not just A:D - but everything in that row,

So, for instance, if you filter out A5:D5, you are actually hiding the entire row 5, across ALL columns. So while J:K may appear to have been rearranged/sorted, you have probably just hidden some of the data in that range.
