    new font for Excel

I want to be able to put encircled letters and numbers (white on black background) in cells of Excel.
Therefore I downloaded form internet the Symbola font to C:\Windows\Fonts.
Due to that I now can use it in MS Word like any other standard available font because it appears in the standard font list of Word.
To my regret it does not show in the font list of Excel.
Did I made a mistake? Please advice me how to make the Symbola font also available in Excel.

    TIA.

Hi & welcome to the board.
Have you closed & reopened Excel since installing the font?

    Re: new font for Excel

Now I did (stupid I did not think of that before!) and the font is indeed in the list of available fonts.
But when I type (for instance) in a cell 1F150 and after that Alt x it does not change into a encircled A in white on
a black background, as does happen in Word.
Instead I got a message on my Excel screen saying (translated from my Dutch version)
"Type the combination of keyboard keys from an earlier version of Office or hit Esc to annull the operation."
I am at a loss, I don't posess an earlier version of Windows and I also do not understand what good it could possibly do.
    What went wrong?

Excel doesn't support shortcut keys for symbol insertion like Word does.

    Insert > Symbol ...
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate

Not a shortcut key but maybe consider AutoCorrect?

    File > Home > Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options ...

Thanks shg, Insert > Symbol ... is the solution!
