How do I get text from a field that’s not subtotaled to appear on the subtotal line?

Specifically, I’m getting data from an Excel query that will be subtotaled by matter number, with the subtotaled fields being hours and amounts billed. In addition to the matter number, I would also like the text in the matter nickname field to appear on the subtotal lines. (Each matter number has only one matter nickname.) Short of manually typing it in, is there a way to do this?
