How to create a list of events based on a different sheet, while skipping successiv events

    Hello,
I am having difficulties creating a certain type of worksheet, and would appreciate if anyone knows if what I need is even possible.
Unfortunately my english is limited and I am struggling to find how to explain my problem. Please be patient with me

I have 2 sheets, the first one contains a table where each row is a certain day in an event with details on that day, while the first cell is the name of that event.
This means that if I have 2 different events, each one lasting for 3 days, then I'll have 6 rows (each row with different details on that day, but first cell in the first 3 rows will be the same, and also in the last 3 rows).

on the second sheet I wanted to create a sort of summery of only the events, so I tried to create an IF function that checks - if the name of the event in a cell is different then the previous row (meaning it is a different type of event) then it will copy it. Problem is, if the name is not different, meaning it's another day of the same event type, it needs to go to the next row and do the same comparison (if the names are the same) and again - either copy or continue to the next row...

However I know how to do it with limited number of cells and a long IF function, but here it is an endless function (compare row n, then row n+1, then n+2,....).

Is there any way to do this in Excel?
    Thank you

    Welcome to the forum!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook showing us what you have achieved so far?

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

You probably need to ensure that the table has a value in every cell in the rows. i.e. a normalised 2 dimensional table. You'll then be able to use a Pivit Table to summars / Analyse your data, or indeed any of the SUMIFS() COUNTIFS() functions
