Date Format Issues in Excel for Mac

    Hi,

I have an issue which is driving me crazy..

In Excel for Mac 2011, when using dates it seems that a new format is being used in the formula bar. For example, instead of displaying 16/11/2018 the date is displayed as 16M11M2018.

This is a problem as I need to load lots of data into a portal which does not recognise this format as a date. I can make the date format display however I want in the actual spreadsheet, it's just in the formula bar where I have the issue.

Anyone know how to resolve this? I've attached a screenshot to show what I mean.

    Thanks

Re: Date Format Issues in Excel for Mac

I don't have a MAC so this could be complete rubbish BUT, if the data is displayed in the formula bar as 16M11M2018 or 31M7M2020, it is nothing to do with formatting. That IS the data.

An unformatted date would show as a 5 digit number and, formatted, it would show as a date with whatever format you've specified. It is unlikely that you could get a date format with Ms in like that as the M would be considered a part of the Month format. Two Ms would show the month as a two digit number; three Ms would show as a short alpha description, for example, Nov; and three Ms would show as a full alpha description, for example, November.

If you have a TRUE date in the cell, for example, 16/11/2018 you could get it to show as 16M11M2018 in the cell using a Custom Format: dd"M"mm"M"yyyy. However, it would still show as the date 16/11/2018 in the formula bar.
