Excel or Access for identifying trends.

    Hello.
I work in the Uk for a large organisation that has recently purchased bespoke sftware to monitor (eg barcodes) the supply and use of goods. There will be huge amounts of data accumulatyed over the years.
Can anyone advice whether MS Excel or Access (or other software) is best for analysing data trends.
I am a bit of a beginner at both Excel and Access.
    Many thanks for your help.

If Excel... you'd want Office 365 subscription (I'd recommend ProPlus, but you can get away with Business). You'll need PowerPivot.

Access isn't really meant as analysis tool, but data management tool and I assume you already have that with bespoke software.

    Other options are:
    1. Power BI
    2. Qlik
    3. Tableau
    etc

    Basically DIY Business Intelligence software.

If you are "stuck" with Excel 2007, then you can still make use of the traditional tools such as pivot tables and the LINEST function. A lot depends on how your data is organized.

Attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.
