Hello everyone! My first post, please forgive me for I have never truly understood the power of excel until very recently. The things you can use it for are incredible.
A friend of mine created an online strategy simulator for motor racing.
I am trying to see if I can create an excel file that would allow me to calculate strategy options and choices based on juggling several sets of data; creating multiple instances and combinations; and then filtering the optimum results from that data.
In short, I am hoping after all the number crunching to be able to input a few fuel consumption values for various tracks and the sheet churns out the estimated combination of engine settings and modes that will likely result in the lowest overall value (aka fastest sprint time over a race length of a set number of laps).
Data I have:
- Number of Laps
- Fuel use range (max to min)
- Fuel Tank size
- Pit stop length
- 5 Engine modes & 5 Intensity settings and relevant fuel consumption per lap for each of those combinations (25 combined sets of fuel consumption values)
- Stint times (5 lap average stints and best laps taken from a selected range of those combinations highlighted yellow in my snapshot. The stint time values are made up (for now).
I am hoping to have it produce something that tells me, essentially, over X number of laps, the fastest combinations in order of length (for example):
- 45 laps at engine mode 4 / push and 20 laps at engine mode 5 / push = XYZ seconds
- 20 laps at engine mode 5 / risk and 40 laps at engine mode 4 / push and 5 laps at engine mode 2 / save = XYZ seconds
etc
Along those lines.
Do you think this is something that can be done on excel, or is this ridiculous?
If I break it down into stages, I think it could be relatively simple. The trouble I have is that I know what I want the cells to do and the data is in front of me; but I don't know the terms of what those actions are. The joys of being in an artistic environment has dissolved much of my numerical abilities haha.
If anyone is able to offer further insight I would be ever so thankful. Excel is absolutely brilliant, and if I get this working who knows what I can try next!
