How Do I Match The Data in One Worksheet to That in Another?

    Hello and good morning all,
I need some matching help between 2 sheets in 1 workbook. Im not sure how to really explain it so i have attached an example for some additional help.

Basically i need to match some values from sheet 1 to sheet 2. I need to match values within the sheet that line up with data that are in Column A and headers in Row 1.

Please see attached. Its probably easier to see then read my mess

    Cheers

    Re: Index and Match help

Please take a moment to re-read forum rule #1 and then amend your thread title to something that better explains your problem. Changing your thread title is not optional, which means you must change it. Thanks!

    • Use concise, accurate thread titles.
    • Your post title should describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.
    • Use terms appropriate to a Google search - poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice tell us nothing.
    • Responding to a request to change your thread title by doing so is mandatory.

To change a title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title.

No help to be offered, please, until the OP complies with this request.

    No.

Try this: "How Do I Match The Data in One Worksheet to That in Another?".

I haven't looked yet, but you may need something other than INDEX MATCH - your helpers will advise.

    Re: Index and Match help

Good enough for me to get. Will this formula work inside sheet 2 for you. All you need to do is copy formula to wherever needed, the references are already set.

    =INDEX(Sheet1!$A:$AR,
    MATCH(Sheet2!$A2,Sheet1!$A:$A,0),
    MATCH(Sheet2!D$1,Sheet1!$1:$1,0))

    Explanation of each row above:

(Sets all the data in all of col A-AR IN sheet 1)
(Matches row Product code, to the reference all of col A IN sheet 1,with exact match)
(Matches column looking for, to the reference all of row 1 IN sheet 1,with exact match)

AMoreno - unfortunately, it's not for you to decide. I will reinstate your post once the OP has changed the title to my satisfaction.

OK, so I've changed the title to show the sort of thing we require. I've also released the post with the help offered. You will need to reattach the workbook, however, we ask that you explain the solution offered in your post as well, and give any formulae used. Thanks!

Although there is no official rule regarding this behaviour, we request that wherever possible both the question AND the answer be provided in substantive detail here within the thread. An attached workbook is an excellent aid for posing a question and offering a solution, but solely doing that with no in thread explanation makes it difficult for researchers to understand or consider the Q & A of this thread without downloading what may be a pointless doc to them, if they can do that at all. Doing that also hides the content from search engines so others may never benefit from this. Like this:

    In Cell D2, copied across:

    =INDEX(Sheet1!$A:$AR,MATCH(Sheet2!$A2,Sheet1!$A:$A,0),MATCH(Sheet2!D$1,Sheet1!$1:$1,0))

    In D5:

    =INDEX(Sheet1!$A:$AR,MATCH(Sheet2!$A5,Sheet1!$A:$A,0),MATCH(Sheet2!D$1,Sheet1!$1:$1,0))

and so on down the sheet.
