Conditional formatting or validation?

The thread title is a tad misleading as this is nothing to do with conditional formatting.
Try this:

Formula:

=IF(A2<>A1+A3,"Change Profit Margin","")

Sorry about the title, I wasn't sure what it would fall under.
Thank you for you advice but nothing shows ups when I use that syntax.

The cell will stay empty if A2 does indeed = the sum of A1 & A3. If it doesn't then the message will show.

But like Ford says, a sample workbook makes the issue in hand far easier for us to comprehend.
