Trying to automatically convert daily data to monthly averaged data

I currently use a pivot table to convert my daily data to averaged monthly data (blue arrow path), but would like to just copy and past the Date and Production data into their columns and have Excel do the work for me and skip the pivot table (green arrow path). The trouble I am having is figuring out a way so that the "solution" cells recognize the month and year automatically to output as shown.
