    Conditional Highlighting Rule Help

I have a table showing aging invoices - some which have been partially paid and others which have not been paid at all. I have been trying to use "Conditional Formatting - Duplicate Values", to quickly identify which invoices have been partially paid vs invoices without any payment applied. But using the "Conditional Formatting - Duplicate Values" just highlights every instance within the entire table that has a duplicate value somewhere else in the table. I ONLY want to highlight rows for which the invoiced "Amount" is the same as the "Open Balance" for that invoice.

Attached is worksheet with: 1. a sample of the table with NO conditional formatting applied, 2. a sample table showing the end result I'm trying to accomplish, and 3. a sample table with my wrong "Conditional Formatting - Duplicate Values" rule

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Conditional Highlighting Rule Help

    Hello,

I think I can help with this. I have attached the workbook with the updated conditional formatting rule that I used to highlight the duplicate values to your first table.

If you go into the conditional formatting rules, you can see the formula that I used.

Instead of using the duplicate value setting, I thought it would be easier to write my own.

The formula that I used is:

    =$B3=$C3

Think of this as an IF statement. IF B3 = C3, then fill in with whatever color you want.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Follow up: I figured out why your duplicate value rule wasn't working the way that you wanted it to. When you selected the Range for which data values you wanted it to find a duplicate value, it searched EVERYWHERE in the range. So for invoice number 63000 where the 48.84 is, the reason it is highlighted is because it also found this data value with invoice number 64482. If you wanted to use the duplicate values, you would have to use a new conditional format for each line.
