It would be best to post a simulated workbook of your project. Do not include confidential information. It is difficult to determine what you are dealing with without actually seeing it first.

If I understand the intent correctly then the attached file may help.
1) Row labels are: Name, Date, Route
2) Value is count of employees
3) Report layout is tabular
4) Subtotals and Grand totals are not needed

Awesome. That will definitely do it JeteMc. But just for the sake of my head, do you know what I was doing wrong with the CF or why it wasn't working?

As to "why" I believe that you were thinking Excel should count the number of employees per date per route, whereas Excel was calculating whether or not the text string for the employee (i.e. Marc Ewing) > 1.
