Bar code scanning for "today's" date

So I want to scan a bar code which will be in column A I would like to have today's date and time of when it was scanned. I hope I loaded the file correctly for you. Like I said it worked 10 months ago now we have new computers and even recreating the formula in a new Excel spreadsheet it still does not work. Maybe I'm just cutting off more than I can chew, or I'm not asking the proper question.
