    Can not remove workbook protection

    Hi Forum,
I am trying to remove workbook protection security code. I am following

Remove password encryption: To remove password encryption from the file, open the workbook and enter the password in the Password box. Then click File > Info > Protect Workbook > Encrypt with Password. Delete the contents of the Password box, click OK, and then save the file again.

Should be simple, BUT excel keeps asking me for the password. I have changed filed name, but it doesnt go away (happen to me in two different files)

    Any ideas what to do?

    Cheers

We do not help with any questions relating to bypassing file security, anyway, regardless of the circumstances - it's against the forum rules.

    Hello Ali,

I didn't read this as a request to bypass password security. When the OP wrote that he had followed the "File > Info > Protect Workbook > Encrypt with Password." it seemed to me that they had already successfully opened a password protected workbook with the known password and was simply wanting to remove it when next saved.

The steps shown should of course bring up the password box with the asterisks (as indeed would a normal 'File SaveAs and opening the Tools General options) and I therefore couldn't understand why they couldn't simply delete the asterisks and then save the now unprotected workbook.

    Perhaps the OP will clarify.

@OP. We don't generally remove posts since the idea is to provide a fund of knowledge for others who may have similar requests.

    Hi, Richard!

I tend to err on the side of caution.

No problem. As the thread is marked as solved, though, I doubt it matters.
