    format data

    hello, i have a date expressed as YYYMMDD 20171023 and I want it as DDMMYYYY , 23102017 , how to do this?

    Select the field(s) where the date format need to be changed.
    Then press Ctrl+1

    Then do the setting of format as "Custom" and format as DD.MM.YYYY.

    Refer screenshot .

    Add reputation and mark as solved if understood. Hope this helps.

    sorry doesn't work for me...
    can you upload an actual xls with the formatted date before and after... this is what i get after doing exactly what you said:

    please, an actual xls... i'm not lucky with general instructions today

    that one refers to a time HH:MM:SS i need day, month year...
    i guess is straightforward for most of people, just not for me

    Just to make it clear: You cannot format "dates" like 20171023. You can only format dates when they presented as a serial number 43031

    Going off of what AlKey said, you cannot format a number such as 20171023 into a valid date.

    That being said, what you can (and should do) is convert it to an Excel recognized date and then format it however you'd like.

    I usually use Text to Columns to convert numbers into actual dates.
