    Excel 2016 Extremely Slow

    Hi,

is anyone experiencing excel 2016 performing really slow? sometimes in the middle of a simple copy and paste, it will freeze and I can hear the computer running very hard in the background. I check the task manager and i see the CPU increasing up to 70% to 90% etc. Only when the CPU start reducing, then I can start moving my cursor or continue working.

it happens even though my excel was not linked to any external add in tool or database etc.

What's the size of the workbook, how many formulae or conditional format rows do you have?

Check the last used cell on a sheet. Sometimes formulae get copied to the whole of a column right down to the very last row.

It is not a big workbook...just one page with a few rows. No conditional formulae or conditional format.

It is however connected to smart view tool (Oracle excel add in). It is the same tool and version as used in previous excel 2010 with no problems.

We tried to use the latest oracle excel add in tool with excel 2016 and still experience lagging performance.

Excel 2016 is driving our users nuts! It is slowing down everything that they used to do in old excel 2010.

    A couple points.

Add-ins are not 1 size fits all. Most add-ins are not compatible 100% across versions. Simple test...disable the addin and if Excel is suddenly not slow thats your problem, the addin should likely be updated to a version explicitly compatible and designed for 2016.

However from your comments it seems a newer version of the addin doesnt solve the problem. Still try disabling and see if it improves, its possible the addin is the culprit.

This also commonly happens when a sheet or multiple sheets have excess content. On each sheet goto cell A1 then press Ctrl+End on the keyboard. This takes you the the bottom right most used cell on the sheet. If it takes you way beyond your data, you have excess cells, clearing them out should resolve the issue.

Is this file macro enabled? Specifically any macro that runs via events? Any macro that protects/unprotects sheets?

Explain exactly the steps you are using to copy and paste (treat me like im dumb and dont know how to copy/paste).

Does this happen with every file, only some, or a specific file?

Does it only happen on some machines and not others?

Edit: and a sample file, sanitized of course, would help us help you

How large are the ranges concerned - how many rows? Are you using array formulae?
