Distribute rows proportionally to a column value

    Hi,

I have a spreadsheet with coordinate values. Each row as a value for x, y, z, and time. The problem is that the space coordinates were taken at different time intervals. When I import this data to an animation software it creates a frame for each row of coordinates, which is great, but because the time difference between rows isn't the same my object will have different speeds at each position coordinate.

What I would like to figure out is how to distribute the rows according to a linear variation of the time value. I wouldn't mind having empty rows, that would even be ideal.

I'm attaching a print screen of this. My problem is that the file has over 500k rows of data.

Thanks in advance for your time.

    Best regards,

    Rui

How do blank rows help you? Also, at 30fps and 500K frames, you are generating >4.5 hour long video. Seems like you actually want to drop some data by reducing the number of 'rows' or frames.

Attached is a template you can use. Change the value in cell A11 to change the number of rows. Probably overkill for what you need, and it will take some time for 500K rows, but it should get you started.

Re: Distribute rows proportionally to a column value

    Thank you for your reply.

I have already figured this out.

Just created a new column with linear time values, ran a match with the existing non linear values, copied the values that were missing in the first place to the existing time column and reordered. That gave me the xyz coordinates distributed along a linear time value.

Blank rows are just fillers for keyframes with no spatial information, they are not actually blank, they have time information which is essential to get the correct speed of the object. The animation software interpolates the missing position coordinates. Now the speed is correct and it's running smoothly.

Yes, 500k rows amount to a lot of time but I can't drop any data, I must have the possibility to change speed at any time without loosing detailed information. But that's an animation detail that I can easily deal with.

    Kind regards,

    Rui
