check boxes have all bunched up in the wrong cells after hiding rows

    hi all
I am hoping you can help me
i am editing a spreadsheet where previous employees have used check tick boxes in cells.

now im not sure if this problem is due to using a different version of excell, i think the problem occured when i hid a whole bunch of rows so i could see the headings up the top.

then the next time i opened the file, all the check boxes have bunched up and moved down the page as shown.

could someone please tell me how i can either get the check boxes back where they were, there are hundreds of them.

or delete them all as they appear to be slowing down scrolling of the sheet.
I will replace them with 'y' in the cells instead.

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Re: check boxes have all bunched up in the wrong cells after hiding rows

    hi thanks for your reply
i had to copy and paste the cells into a new spreadsheet as the file was over this websites limit, even with most of the data deleted, it seems the x boxes create quite a file size

i have found how to remove 1 x box at a time, by clicking on a boxes border and deleting or cutting.

however there are literally hundreds of them, i have only shown a tiny amount of them

i don't want to delete all check boxes from the sheet as some are working fine, but just the ones that are bunched up.
later ill go back and type a y in the cells where there was a tick

how can i delete a selection of check boxes in one go please
    thanks again

OK - here's how to get rid of them:

    1. Find & select on the Home ribbon - Go To Special ...
    2. Select Objects - click OK.
    3. Press the delete key once.

    All gone!
