    Duplicate entries in spreadsheet

We have a database converted to a spreadsheet and want to find entries which have duplicate entries, the same person entered twice with a different email address for example. The first name is in column B and the surname is in column C and if both those names appear again further down the sheet we want to highlight the names, can this be done?

    Thanks

    Re: Duplicate entries in spreadsheet

    It can indeed.

You could use a COUNTIFS formula in a blank column to count how many instances of a first name and surname match there is, then filter to those greater than 1.
Or you could use Conditional Formatting to highlight multiple instances.

Quick question before I put together an example workbook for you, would there be any instances of matching names and the same email address? If so, how would you like to deal with those?

There could be same email addresses but different postal addresses so basically any names that are the same want to be highlighted and then we can filter out any that are different people with the same name manually if that makes sense

    Re: Duplicate entries in spreadsheet

In the attached I've shown both methods I mentioned.

The green cells are highlighted using conditional formatting with the formula:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

You can test it out by changing the names slightly and they will either highlight when they match or turn white when they don't.

The cells with red numbers in uses an in cell formula to count how many matches of both names there are. If greater than 1 then you have duplication.
    Formula for that is:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    Any use?
