    Security Warning: External Data Connections

    Hello,

Each week I get a PivotTable report to sort and summarize, and once I have done that I'm supposed to send it back. I accomplish this using a macro which formats and saves the workbook, generates an email, and then deletes the module holding the macro.
The issue is when people open my workbook, they get a "SECURITY WARNING External Data Connections have been disabled - Enable Content" warning message. How would I stop this message appearing for other users? I have no idea where it is coming from (it is not present in the original doc I receive). I understand I can change my Trust Center settings so that I won't see the message, but I want a solution that results in nobody getting a warning message (this is why I delete my macro code, to avoid the Macro warning).

    Thank you!

Perhaps you could adjust your macro to copy and paste the values only, before saving and sending. This would break any links to external content in the final production being sent.

I don't think that would be an option unless I rewrite the macro since I don't open up a new workbook and paste the information, I simply format the original doc several times and save it under different names.

I think you'll have to amend your macro in either case, the other option would be to remove the references to the external content which may still reside in the name manager.

The name manager, as well as Data > Connections, are empty. I'm not even sure how I would edit my macro as the files I send out still need to contain filterable PivotTables, so I couldn't just paste the values I don't think.

you can pivot on values only just the same as linked data it shouldn't make a difference.

It would be interesting to find out where the linked data resides however if name manager and data connections are empty, the oonly other things I could think of could be conditional formatting and perhaps cell formulas.

That's true I guess just seems like a lot of extra work.

I cleared conditional formatting for the entire workbook and it didn't do anything (I don't think it was ever used). I haven't been able to find a single cell with a formula or a reference to a name. However, the PivotTable is generated from a seperate data sheet (which is deleted prior to saving). Could that somehow cause this?

well once automated with VBA its still the same key press

how are you moving the data from the separate datasheet to the one you're working with?

That happens before I receive the sheet (which is why I don't think it's the problem), but I'm not sure how it is moved initially
