Copying horizontal list to bertical and vice versa

    Hello all,

Originally, we had a vertical list of all our accounts (account name, address, email etc).

To manage orders, it was easier to convert that vertical list to horizontal list of account name and on the Y axis, have the different products they want to order and then be able to manipulate that date easily.
    We did that manually.

Problem is, this list is getting bigger and we can't really do it manually anymore.

Is there a way to convert a vertical list of names to a horizontal one automatically and vice versa?

    Thank you

Copy > paste special > transpose.

Re: Copying horizontal list to bertical and vice versa

You're a genious so simple lol

    Ok, one more hurdle:
    So the vertical is simple:
    Name A
    Name B
    Name C

But for the horizontal list, every name occupies 5 cells. (merged, but don't have to be really)
So when copying and transposing the vertical list, I wil then need to manually make a 4 cell gap between each name. Any idea how to go past that?

DON'T USE MERGED CELLS!!! They are a nightmare.

Having said this, will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Hopefully I've managed to attach the file.

Imagine I only have the vertical list of the accounts on a different sheet, and I need to copy that list to the horizontal list of where it says "account name"

No, sorry - that's not really helping. Could you please manually add some expected results?

Re: Copying horizontal list to bertical and vice versa

I'm not sure how else to explain this.
We have a vertical list of account names. That's the easy part.
We'd like to convert it to horizontal list, but the format of the horizontal list is different (See image below):
    Capture.JPG

So each account name that only occupied 1 cell on the vertical list now needs to occupy 5 because of the size breakdown (XS to XL).
If I just use copy and paste transposed it won't work.

    Is that clearer?
