CTRL V does not automatically clear Clipboard

Something has just changed with my Excel (2016). If I press CTRL C to copy a cell or cells and then press CTRL V to paste the copied content, the original cell stays highlighted and only after I press ENTER does the Clipboard clear.
This is quite annoying - how do I change it back to the original so that when I press CTRL V, it pastes the content and does not keep the highlighted cell.

    Hi,

That is how Excel has always worked for me. It is certainly how Excel 2010 behaves.

YES!!! Oh my gosh, I have this exact same issue and it occurred right around the same time you posted this.

After about a month of trying to force myself to hit ENTER instead of breaking my decades habit of CTRL-V, I'm fed up with this annoying change. What's worse is that this might be the first issue I've ever encountered that I can't find a solution to on the internet. Most people keep saying it's always been like this, but not for me. Aside maybe trying an "ant killer" macro from a 2009 post that may or may not fix this...I'm at a loss.

PLEASE someone tell us how to revert back to auto-clearing the clipboard upon CTRL-V!! This old dog doesn't want to change the way I've been doing it forever.

I am going to go with xlnitwit. In my use of Excel (starting with 5.0) Excel has never cleared the clipboard on ctrl-v, but has always cleared the clipboard on enter. I am not sure if it is a regional setting or something else that has caused your versions of Excel to behave differently. This old dog doesn't want to learn a new trick, either, but I am used to the opposite of californiahawkeye and Zander Van der Walt.

Is there any chance this is something that is part of the one of the "Lotus transition" settings?

Ugh! It's STILL killing me - I never found a fix. What bothers me even more is that it just started one day in recent months and I have. O idea what prompted the change. Glad to know I'm not alone!

That's how Excel has always behaved as I recall. I just went back and checked Excel 2003 -- same, same. It allows you to paste repeatedly.

Cut (Ctrl+x) clears the clipboard on Ctrl+v

There was a recent change in Office 365 that makes the clipboard copy more persistent (allowing you do things like formatting cells after copying without losing the copy). This was apparently made in response to UserVoice feedback and cannot, as far as I am aware, be turned off.

I'll take your word for it. But that is not what the months-old OP describes. If that is what recent complaints are talking about, that is why people should start new threads for new problems, not piggyback old threads.

With respect to just plain ctrl+C followed by ctrl+V.... Not only is that the way Excel has always behaved, but also it is an important feature. It allows us to paste into non-contiguous cells without having to copy again. I rely on that feature "all the time".

PS.... When I say "always behaved", I should say: on PCs. For those who say it used to behave differently, I wonder: are you using a Mac?

And it is not what I replied to the OP months ago. I told him/her that it had always been that way.

I merely felt it relevant to add that there has indeed been a recent change in the way the clipboard behaves if you have an Office 365 subscription.
