    Process cockpit board

    Hello,

I'm currently interning at a big machining workshop. The workshops process is heavy duty, and cycle times in phases are usually counted as days.

We are currently collecting cycle time data from the process. Everytime a piece gets trough a phase, the finish date gets registered in to an Excel file. The upper side of the picture attachment is a simplification of it.

I'm now looking for a way to form a visualization of the process situation, something like the lower part of the picture attached. The "piece" -shapes would process forward and get organised one on the other everytime a new phase finish date is registered. The shapes would disappear in the end of the process, and new ones created when a new piece is registered to the system. Later on there could be all kinds of visual formattings and warnings and stuff on the shapes based on deadlines or other matters.

I'm not expecting someone to give me a finished solution or answer, but i'm looking for tips and ideas on where to get started. I'm familiar to basics of VBA, and I'd be keen to master it.

What do you think would be the best way to get started on creating a shape-based visualization?
