Hi In column A I have linked data from another sheet with the formulae like this:
='C:\2017-18\[John Smith.xlsx]Sheet1'!C10
is there anyway in column B it could just display "John Smith" just so I know where it got the data from.

You are looking to extract a string from within another string of data.
