    Returning a list

I have a list of raw data that goes as follows:
    A: Date B: Name C: Address
with columns of various data that follow. On a separate sheet, I need to be able to pull the data by name. So, if in the Name field, if I have Bob, Bill, Joe, and Sue listed, I would need returned all of Sue's listings. Using a filter to copy and paste the data isn't an option. Please tell me there's a forumula that can help me!

    Thanks.

Why is it not an option?

Because the list I'd be copying has no merged cells, but where I need them will be merged cells. The formulas woukd be in the merged cells on the new sheet.

    Re: Returning a list

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    Re: Returning a list

On your attached sheet, which data do you want copied where?

If, when you say you enter a "name", you mean the horrible merged cell B3:B9? Do you also plan to enter the date? Is it just the answers for Art you want? Can there be a different name in B10:B16? If so, how is Excel to know WHICH set of data you want to get returned.

    More detail, please!

    Re: Returning a list

Essentially, I'd like the print page to automatically give me all of Art's listings, all of Marc's listings, etc. one at a time. I know I can use a data validation drop down menu to tell Excel which set of data I need. And, yes, unfortunately, I need it in the horribly merged cells. (Unless you know of a different way to get check boxes that I need in column L.) I'd like columns A-J to automatically fill once I select which name I want.
