Clipboard clears before I can paste cells; WTF am I doing wrong?

So I select a couple of cells in a column containing text, copy them, then double click on another cell to paste as combined text... but upon clicking into the receptive cell, the "dancing ants" disappear from my selection and the paste option is greyed out.

Fresh installation of Office 2016. No addons. No VBA or fancy stuff. Just a 3MB workbook containing text and sheets and formulas.

How can I stop wasting hours upon hours in this conniption-inducing, paste-less hell without reverting back to LibreOffice (which works just fine btw, so the more I think about it, this is probably what I should do)?

Double clicking or editing another cell would probably cancel the copy/paste mode.

Select the values from the cells formula bar and copy, then go to the other cells formula bar to paste to existing values, then hit enter.

It's the same with me. And it is not a question of wrongly picking something up.
Just Excel error. I copy the text from the notebook (to be sure I paste it again lower in the notebook and its paste without problems),
then go to Excel to the cell edit field and ctrl + v, at this point nothing happens and when I return to the notebook and want to paset the clipboard is empty
I have to copy from the notebook again back to excel and pastes the copied text the second time and then woking :OO WTF !! .
THIS IS A NIGHTMARK and you can't work like that. What happen with office
