    "Data Validation" for Numbers

I'm not quite sure how to explain this, but this is my end goal.

In the attached file I want the sum of L4:T4 and L5:T5 to equal G7.

Columns L - T are assorted vendors, and each line item in my budget gets broken out among those vendors. I manual break up the subtotal as needed for that specific portion of a project, but sometimes either typos or addition / division errors result in the sum of the vendor cells not equaling the subtotal for that part of the project.

Is there a way to use something along the lines of data validation to have excel tell me if the sum of those cells doesn't match the subtotal in G7?

    Thanks,

    Why not use conditional formatting?

Use this formula to colour G7 Green
    Formula: copy to clipboard

And use this formula to colour G7 Red

I thought of that, but im not quite sure how to use it in this instance. Would your suggestion be to have the cells formatted so that they change color if the sum doesn't equal the subtotal? Ive used conditional formatting before, but I am by no means an expert at its functionality.

Any useful tips would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Not quite sure what happened but those formulas werent visible when I initially checked your post!

Anyway, I got it working perfectly once I got the formulas, this is great.

    1 last question.
I have a blank section at the bottom of my budget, and when I start a new stage / section of a project I copy that blank section and paste it into the document where I need it to create a new set of line items.
Is there a way to apply this conditional formatting to this blank section, and then have it transfer to a bew section when I copy/paste it elsewhere in the file?

    Thanks again!

    Re: "Data Validation" for Numbers

I have attached a full version of a past budget. Rows 146 - 151 is my "new sub-project" section - that is the rows I would copy to begin a new section of my budget.

Hope this helps with my last question?

    Thanks!
