Whats the best version of Excel to upgrade to?

    Hi all,
I have been on 2007 version for years.
As far as i am concerned its an excellent program with very few bugs.

I have another laptop with 2013 on it. It works very similar to 2007 but still have to be careful with version compatibilty when writing formulas or VBA & even colours.
Problem being is the majority of our company is on 2003 still.
They are slowly upgrading to 2007.
Although our IT dept have now stopped loading 2007 as microsoft are stopping/stopped supporting it.

I have been told i can upgrade to 2010 but i have heard of so many problems with macros not working, vba code not working etc.
Obviously i am going to have compatibilty issues until the rest of the company upgrade.

What problems have you experience with 2010 and what version do you suggest?
    Regards
    Sean

I have been happy with xl'10.
xl'07 has had occasions to require different codes and procedures.

Most case of VBA/Code not working on newer version, that I came across personally, is due to user installing 64 bit Office.

There are few instances of compatibility issue with new vs. old.

    1. New Object Model available in newer version isn't present in older versions
Ex. .DisplayFormat is only available to 2010 or later

    2. From Excel 2010, you have option (though not default) to install 64 bit installation of Office.
While most VBA will not have issue with it, if you make API call or use VarPtr, you'd need modify it a bit to make it compatible for 64 bit & 32 bit.
    See link for detail.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...ffice.14).aspx

There are some API not available for 64 bit as well.

    3. There are many ActiveX components that does not work under 64 bit
Hence, unless you are crunching very large data set and need RAM beyond standard 2~3GB limit. It's recommended to use 32 bit install (default).

I'd highly recommend going with 2010 or later.
