Creating a Progressing Calendar with a Year Look Up

    Hello,

This is my first post. I am definitely the most basic of Excel novices, so please excuse any errors or silly questions.

I am in the HR position for a company that uses an excel spreadsheet to track vacation accrual, usage, and holidays. The spreadsheet is complex, so it takes significant time every year to go through and update the calendar portion for the new year.

Going through old items, I found an old calendar someone had been using to track company holidays, and it has a year look-up so all you have to do is change the year and it fills in the correct days. I can't find the data it is drawing from anywhere on the spreadsheet. There is a scrolling bar in the left-hand corner of the spreadsheet that allows you to scroll through the years ranging from 1900-9999, but there is no visible (or hidden) data, just the scroll bar. What am I missing? I would love to figure out how to incorporate this look up into our current HR calendars so I can update all employee calendars with just one click!

    Thanks in advance!

    ~ Crispy

    Hi Crispy,

Are there hidden sheets in the workbook?

Does the file have any VBA behind it? Press Alt-F11 and see if there is VBA code behind the sheets or in modules.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

Re: Creating a Progressing Calendar with a Year Look Up

    Hi Marvin,

    Thanks for the quick reply!

There were hidden sheets, but it was just the two years previous, still no data dump. I'm looking at the VBA properties list for the worksheet, but I can't find anything regarding a code, what am I looking for?

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but this is the formula on each day of the calendar:

    =IF(AND(YEAR(FebSun1+1)=TheYear,MONTH(FebSun1+1)=2),FebSun1+1, "")

    Thanks!

    Hi Crispy,

It would be easier*if you could attach the file and then we might be able to help more.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

Here is the example of the calendar that has the formula. You can see the scroll bar in the upper left. I just can't find how it is looking up the correct days by year...

    Hi Crispy,

You need to look at the Formula Tab and then the Names Manager. There are a lot of Named Ranges that the workbook uses in doing its work.
The named ranges and the formulas are what does all the work.
