Question working out how much to sell item for

    Hello

I am going to hopefully start a business soon from home.
After a few recommendations, I decided to teach myself how to use Excel.

Can someone plaese help me with the following question.

I will be buying items in bulk. (Comes with a list of items I would get including the rrp of each item)
Say the 1st joblot of 100 items total a retail price of £1100, and I bought the joblot for £420,
    (1) How would I workout the markup price (Is that what its called?)
    (2) How would I work out how much to sell it for including flat rate postage to give myself a profit?

    Hope that made sense

    1. Im not sure what you mean by the "markup price"?
    2. the statement "to give myself a profit" is a bit broad. the basic answer to that would be £4.21 per unti + whatever your postage cost is ie if the postage is £1 then the price to make a profit is £5.21 however it all depends on how much of a profit you want to make. If however you're looking to sell them for a total of £1100 ie the retail price then the sale per item is £1100 / 100 units = £11 + postage cost.

Im not sure however if this is an Excel question? or were you wanting it as a formula?

If so then assuming total retail is in A1 and number of units in A2 and postage cost per item in A3 then your formula would be

Add the 440 into A3 format A4 as a percentage and add the formula

Obviously in all of these examples the cells can be changed to match whatever cells you are using in your spreadsheet

There are some very good basic tutorials on the net, heres one that might be a good starting point.
