Unexpected Currency Change

Hi all, just opened an Excel 2007 spreadsheet with 28 sheets and all £ (Pound) entries have changed to $ (Dollar) I have € (Euro) entries also, which remain unchanged. Other spreadsheets on this pc are also unchanged. Firstly, any idea how this came about and secondly, is there a way of changing all $'s back to £'s in one go? I have checked my regional settings and nothing has changed, including default currency.
