I can't remember ever having this problem before but when I drag one of the indecies from the Field area at the top of the Pivot Table Builder to the Values area I keep getting a sum of the values but no display of the values. I've had the default that it sums values before but only at the bottom of a display of the values pivoted under the appropriate Column and Row as those fields are specified, but it displays the values and then puts in a total line and i can turn the total off if i want to. This is not doing that, it is just summing the values with no display of the underlying values. In this table i do not have row labels, maybe that is what is causing this problem. These are list values that happen to be numeric so they have no meaning as numbers for arithmetic.

In some columns of the table if properly created there are 3 values in others there are 4 or 5 or 6. I can create a separate column in the original data that counts off occurences of the common field value that will become the column head in the pivot table once built but that will take some cell coding and then i have to copy the column and paste the values. i would think excel could just default them without row labels. putting individual values in the column in the order they occur in the worksheet. maybe not. any tricks before i head off to try it that way later today. thanks.
