How to prevent excel from adding historical data in its memory?

I have a file of about 4 MB. It is a file which uses live input of data from a trading station. With each passing day the file keeps growing in size without any visible or logical data storage (despite deleting the daily copy and paste data). Does excel have some other way to remember and keep the data other than its 100 memories for undo ? How can I prevent or reset this file which has now become a 10 MB file ? ( I do add small macros time to time but they may be very insignificant)

Use Ctrl+End. This will select what Excel has determined to be the last used cell. If that last used cell is many rows or columns beyond the last cell that contains data, you have found the cause of the unwanted file size growth. A solution to be tried is to delete the unused rows and columns, save and close the file immediately, then reopen the workbook.
