    copy a cell and format

Hi, all, newbiew here, I want to copy a cell the value and the format (as a phone number)
so in a cell of another sheet I have this:
    123-456-7890
when I refer back to it in another sheet, it comes out like this:
    1234567890
I have set the cell as a phone number but I don't know how to also set it in the other one. this is what I have on the cell: =Sheet1!C3&""
    please help anyone.

A formula can't return a format - only a value. However, you can apply the same format by using the Format Painter icon, i.e. select cell C3 of sheet1 and click on the Format Painter icon, then click on the cell that has the formula and the same format will be applied. That format will also be applied if you copy the formula down.

    Hope this helps.

I tried that, but it don't seem to do it, still prints out as 1234567890.
I am using excel 2007 and not sure if its a bug.

Please note that formatting is just a visual representation of the data. Formatting doesn't write any values to a cell. However, this can be with use of a TEXT function

    Enter formula in B1
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    v A B

How can I get rid of the line across it?
    I enter this =Quote!C3
    I entered this:
    ==Quote!C3""
but it erases the format for some reason.
there is like a little dash in it when the cell is blank.

Just some modification to the formula. It will make cell B1 blank if A1 is blank.
    Formula: copy to clipboard
