Excel Opens Completely Blank/No Menus

I recently had difficulty trying to open a file in Excel... it did the thing where, if I clicked a desktop shortcut of the file, Excel would open, but no file would appear (note: only files downloaded from a specific website, otherwise Excel was functioning properly). It would either open to a blank workbook or blank screen. I googled and tried a few things... some DDE setting among other things, none of which worked. I then followed the instructions I saw on another excel forum for the regserver/unregserver stuff. Not only did it not fix the initial problem, but now every single menu is gone from excel. I have no file menu. I have no formatting. I have no ribbon. I have absolutely nothing. I've tried all the function keys, with alt, with shift, seemingly every combo I could think of. Nothing! What do I do!? (I am using office 2010).

*Edit: I forgot to mention I also ran a repair before posting. That did nothing.

I have read here the answer from another thread, as I face the same problem -
Right click on the filename -> go to properties - on the bottom of 'General' tick the 'Unblock' box and you are done.
I don't know how to do it constantly on any file..

well that is just about the simplest and most effective solution now isn't it? that worked in terms of getting the file to open. but i still have no menus!

I think this is another issue, though might be caused by the same reason which caused the blocking.

well this was really the *main* issue, as it was less important that i couldn't open the files (i was able to download them as other file types and get the info i needed) than it is not being able to function in excel whatsoever. all i can do is type into cells and use whatever formatting available from keyboard shortcuts and the right-click menu.

*note: this only happened after trying to fix the original problem. it was something i did trying to open those files that caused this problem.

So try to re-repair the excel Sorry, just joking. If this is what happened maybe the best way is to uninstall and install Excel.
