In G2, array-enter (enter using Ctrl-Shift-Enter)

=SUM(IF(IF(ISERROR(MATCH(B2:F2+1,B1:F1,FALSE)),0,1)+IF(ISERROR(MATCH(B2:F2-1,B1:F1,FALSE)),0,1)>0,1,0))

and copy down.

just to confirm can we use same formula in open office, im trying to do but its giving Err:509.

Sorry - I only use Excel. Investigate whether Open Office supports Excel array formulas, and how to enter them.
