    Filtering with Blanks (grouping/ungrouping)

    Hi,

I want to thank you in advance for any advice I might receive.

I have a worksheet currently that could be optimized to make it easier to read. I would like to filter Column A so that it will show each "Practice Area", and just that. I realize that I have blanks underneath different projects that is making it impossible to filter through conventional methods. I thought of creating groupings/ungroupings, which solves 50% of the problem. It can filter for practice areas when I hit "2" for grouping, but when I ungroup, everything expands again.

Can someone please help me with grouping my workpage so that if I filter for "PHS" for example, I only see rows 4-11?

    I have attached my worksheet.

    Thank you!

    Re: Filtering with Blanks (grouping/ungrouping)

I suggest that you fill column A with the values from the rows above. To do this in one operation, you should select the cells A4:A26 then press the F5 (GoTo) key and click on Special then Blanks then OK. Then begin to type a formula by entering the = sign, and click on cell A4, then hold down the CTRL key and press < Enter > - all those values will be filled. You can use Copy | Paste Special | Values | OK to convert those formulae to values. You could also apply conditional formatting to the column to set the foreground colour to the same as the background colour if the value is the same as the one above, so that your sheet will look the same as before.

    Hope this helps.

    Pete
